Microprocessor and RNG

All slot machines today are microprocessor controlled. A microprocessor is the computer board inside the machine, which is the electronic brain of the game. It is very similar to the computer you may have at home, except that it serves the single purpose of controlling all the functions of the slot machine including the movement of the mechanical reels. In video slots, the screen is similar to the monitor on a home computer, except that it usually has touch screen capability.

The random number generator (RNG) is one of the chips on the internal computer board. It generates thousands of random numbers a second, and each random number sequence defines a specific set of reel symbols. The instant a player presses the MAX BET or SPIN button, the next set of randomly generated numbers is selected.
